The Michigan State Spartans are really struggling as a team, and things will not get any easier when they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on the road Tuesday night.

Michigan State (8-6, 2-6 Big Ten) had 20 days between games and returned to the court last week, losing by 30 points to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and suffering a 79-62 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday. The Spartans are on a three-game losing streak and are desperate for a big win that will boost their resume in their quest to potentially be an NCAA Tournament team. Junior forward Gabe Brown is out indefinitely after testing positive for COVID-19.

Iowa (12-4, 6-3) finds itself on a bit of a losing streak as well with consecutive losses to the Indiana Hoosiers and Illinois Fighting Illini, which occurred on Friday night. The Hawkeyes are led by their offense with the No. 2 ranked team in terms of adjusted offensive efficiency. Iowa’s C.J. Fredrick sat out Friday’s game with a lower leg injury, and it remains to be seen whether he will return to the lineup on Tuesday night.

The Best Bet

It’s possible this Michigan State team is going to miss the NCAA Tournament. But they’re not awful defensively, and can get in the way enough to slow Luka Garza and company enough to not get run out of the gym here.
